Obun2 Developed Child Protection Training Materials for Sindh Police

Obun2 has developed a comprehensive Child Protection Training Manual and Facilitator’s Training Guide to support the institutional strengthening of child protection capacity within Sindh Police training systems. The manuals were prepared as part of ongoing efforts to promote child-sensitive, rights-based and professional policing practices across Sindh.

The training materials were provided to 50 law trainers and instructors from Sindh Police Training Institutes who completed specialised Training of Trainers (TOT) programmes on child protection in May 2026. The initiative aimed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of police trainers so that child protection principles can be systematically integrated into future police trainings and institutional learning processes.

The manuals cover a wide range of important child protection themes, including child rights principles and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), child protection laws in Pakistan and Sindh, child-sensitive policing, diversion and juvenile justice procedures, responding to children in conflict with the law, children in need of care and protection, online safety and technology-facilitated risks, child labour and trafficking, child marriage, interviewing and communication with children, referral pathways, inter-agency coordination, and trauma-informed approaches in police work.

The Facilitator’s Training Guide further provides structured session plans, facilitation techniques, case studies, practical exercises and guidance to support effective delivery of child protection trainings within police institutions.

To further strengthen institutional learning and sustainability, the manuals are also being supported through an online child protection training portal currently under development, which is expected to be launched soon. The portal will provide trainers and police personnel with quick access to supplementary learning materials, practical resources, presentations, reference documents and future training support tools.

This initiative reflects the growing recognition by Sindh Police of the importance and sensitivity of child protection issues and the need for specialised, child-centred approaches in policing. The integration of these manuals into police training curricula represents an important step towards strengthening institutional capacity and promoting safer, more responsive systems for children across Sindh.
